Captain’s Welcome – Updated May 2020
I do hope that this update finds everybody keeping well, reasonably chipper given the circumstances and hopefully able to venture out again on your golf course in the glorious weather we’ve all been enjoying since we were locked down. It’s a bit ironic that we’ve never had so many sunny Bank Holidays on the trot, isn’t it?
I am naturally hugely disappointed that we had to come to the decision to cancel all our plans for this year. During the first month after lockdown we were musing about how we might be able to make things ‘work’ but it soon became clear that actually nothing was going to work! Therefore I can only add, that after our very successful and fun AGM in March, in my mind’s eye it was going to be an absolutely cracking year and I for one was really looking forward to it …and I was also going to be playing the best golf of my life! (Still time for THAT maybe!)
So, turning to ”the future’, we have come to the conclusion that it would be beneficial for the Society to enjoy continuity over the next couple of years. To that end, and following leads from the County, Berkshire Captains and other Lady Captains’ Societies, Rosalie, Mary and I, together with the Officers and Committee members have had a ‘meeting’ and agreed to carry on for an extra year in post. We will therefore not be looking to elect or appoint any new members to the Committee before the 2022 AGM: with the one exception, that Jenny Chadwick, our Secretary, is hoping to relocate to Cheshire before then.
We trust that you will all be happy to endorse your Committee’s decisions in these awkward times, as they were taken with minimal fuss and wholly in the best interests of our Society. Hopefully by the end of next year when we are looking for new members for 2022/23, we will all know ‘where we are’ and new ladies will be happy to do their part by helping on the Committee.
Although we really can’t know for sure how things will develop as time goes on, we are taking the positive view that we should prepare ourselves for GOOD news, therefore I shall shortly be sorting out our 2021 calendar with all the things we are missing so much this year. I am lucky that I already have a Vice Captain in place, and Mary will help share the load of a two-year Captaincy with me, for which I’m very grateful…though I admit this one’s been less than onerous for the last 12 weeks!
One little bit of good news right now is that anyone who has already paid their £7 subs for this year will automatically remain a member of the Society until the end of 2021. I suggest that any new Lady Captains interested in joining should wait till early 2021 as I’m afraid we can’t offer ‘value for money’ right now! Membership details will be sent out, or accessible online, as usual at the end of this year.
If you have anything you’d like to ask about the Society, please use contacts button to have a chat or drop me an email anytime. It will be good to keep in touch during a year when we’re unlikely to see each other.
Kind regards to you all and please stay well.
