On a roasting hot day, accompanied by an Amber weather warning from the Met Office. The Berkshire ladies arrived at Badgemore Park for our Midlands South Final, knowing that they had foursomes and singles to play.
We were playing Worcestershire and Herefordshire from ‘the North’
Our County Champion Bella, and Junior Captain Holly – led the way in the foursomes, securing a half.
Jane Brakenbury & Chloe Walkington – secured an important win, keeping their very strong record in foursomes going.
County Captain Charlie and Gabi Heuchel were the third pairing, finding themselves against very strong opposition unfortunately losing their match, their match did provide one of the highlights of the morning a fabulous Hole in One from Charlie on the long par three 13th hole.
The morning finished as a draw 1 1/2 points each.
After a pleasant lunch, and a top up of water bottles. The team went out for the singles, slight change of personnel, saw Gabi head home to cool off, and Vicky Prietzel take her place in the singles.
Bella came in with a good win, Vicky was taken to the last hole and her match halved. Chloe played very steadily and came in with a win. Young Holly played some super golf only to be pipped on the 18th hole by an experienced player. Jane from West Berks couldn’t get the win, so that left the match sitting tied.
Due to the points up rule a half would have been good enough to secure the win, but with two teams watching, and Charlie completely unaware of this, she slotted home a fantastic long putt for a birdie, which gave her a 1up win.
The final score 5 – 4
I’m extremely proud of the team, and thank them, Arlie and the Oxfordshire 2nd team county captain for all the organisation. Badgemore was a fantastic venue, and I have written directly to them to thank them, it takes a lot for clubs to host this sort of event.
