Match report BLCGS v Berkshire Mens Captains 31 August 2022

Our penultimate match of the summer, played at Sand Martins Golf Club, was against the Mens Captains of Berkshire. We field a larger team of 20 players each side for this match and a game of men v women always lends an extremely competitive edge to the event.

Sand Martins fairways have benefited from its watering systems and the photo attached to this report shows the current condition of the course. The club received so many compliments on the day on the condition of the course and it was a pleasure for everyone to play on fairways ‘with bounce’ and a true run of the ball without veering off in all directions on many of the counties’ very dry courses.

Waiting on the patio in the sunshine for the games to finish was nerve wracking as I wanted a win. The ladies were leading the match halfway through and then the men won three games in a row to make it all square. So, it came down to the last game to give the match result. It was not to be our day and we lost the match 4.5 to 5.5. It was played with great spirit on both teams and my thanks go to all the ladies of the BLCGS team and of course the gentlemen to make it a fun and really enjoyable day.

The team: Mary Lush, Carole Smith, Judy Crawley, Glenys Ellis, Katherine Hartwell, Ann Maisey, Rosalie Tucker, Sarah Fowler, Sonya Singh, Jennifer Neill, Judy Jones, Ann Francis, Beth Eccles, Pauline Sleet, Babs Shanks, Rita Ellis, Pauline Valsler, Pat Jenkins, Linda Harris, Jane Ohlenschlager
