Held at Newbury & Crookham Golf Club
26th May 2022
Many thanks go to Newbury & Crookham Golf club for hosting one of the big county competitions – The Interclub Shield.
We were royally treated (on the Jubilee year!) by all the staff – Dean and Jeff in the bar, and Simon and his team in catering. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything about the weather, which was cold, rainy and miserable for most of the day!
Nothing to deter our hardy golfers from 21 Berkshire clubs who – ably started by the Newbury & Crookham ladies captain Gill Myers, carried on regardless, and came in with some good scores. Many remarked on how nice the course looked, and how fast the greens were! Thanks go to the green staff headed by Chris Ball for their early morning preparation.
The Interclub Shield is and individual stableford competition, played in teams of 3 from each club with the top two scores for the team to count for the prize.
The County Captain Charlie Keenan was on hand to present the prizes and congratulate the winners.
The winners of the Interclub Shield with a fantastic team score of 74 points were Maidenhead:

Winners Maidenhead
74 points

2nd Place – Sand Martins
72 points

3rd Place – Newbury & Cookham
69 points
First place for the individual stableford prize was won by Eileen Clarke from Maidenhead GC with 39 points, and a very good back 9 of 22 points:

Close 2nd place ocb – also with 39 points Fran Campbell from Mill Ride GC:

Very well done to all the participants, and we hope to see you at the other county events to be held this year.
