CAPTAIN’S UPDATE – AUGUST 2021
Dear Lady Captains
Our Society is for anyone who has been a Lady Captain of an affiliated club and offers members the opportunity to play matches against the corresponding societies within our neighbouring counties, attend three seasonal golf meetings, compete for several cups and trophies and have a sociable get together, relaxed lunch and optional bridge at our Annual General Meeting in March. And … access to all of this is only £7 per calendar year!
Now that I am a third of the way through my second year as Captain, I am happy to say that our Society is alive, well and finally golfing: it certainly seemed an awful long time coming!! If anybody is reading this and wondering about joining, please get in touch with our Secretary, Irene Manson, and she will point you in the right direction. Contact forms are on this page.
Well, from the rather quiet days of our Zoom AGM in March, here we are at last in the Summer of 21, (which as we now know, can mean anything from biblical rainstorms to searing heat) and it’s all systems go, with our matches well underway and our Summer Meeting already behind us. Forgive my delay in posting results but so far we’ve incurred a draw, two losses and 2 satisfying wins, and are hoping to continue on an upward trend as many of the matches were very closely fought and could have gone either way. Almost 60 ladies are playing in the matches this year and I’m very grateful to you all for signing up to play and to those who were reserves and kept yourselves available for the inevitable changes I needed to make before each match.
Golf clubs have been eager to get members back spending their money and I have to say, when we’re sitting at a table with our masks off it really does seem ‘normal’ again. I hope you are all enjoying your golf and all the other things that at last you’re able to do now. For those members who have unfortunately been beset with injuries and health problems, I wish you a speedy recovery and return to golf. It must have been so disappointing after ‘sitting out’ 2020, to find that you were still unable to take advantage of our restrictions finally lifting and I hope it won’t be too long now before you can.
Our final fling for the year will be at Winter Hill GC, for our Autumn Meeting and President’s Prize Day on Wednesday 29th September so please save this day in your diary so that we can get a really good turnout for it. Rosalie like all of us on the Committee agreed to stay in office for a further year, so will be retiring at the next AGM after completing FOUR years as our President. You should now have received an email with the application form and we look forward to getting your entries in by 8th September.
News of matches and other events have been loaded up on the website for you to peruse so please try to find your way round our pages. If you have any difficulty at all, please contact any of the officers for assistance, and also don’t be afraid to contact me directly – that’s why this year, the Captain’s details are below…so you don’t need to go through hoops to obtain answers!
All the very best to you all.
