BLCGS match report v Surrey Past Lady Captains, Wednesday 8 May 2019

We played this match at Sutton Green. Although the course is relatively new (celebrating its 25th anniversary this year), it looks much more established. There are some beautiful old trees around the course and even the younger ones have taken well and look very established. The fairways were in great condition … and then there were the water hazards! Two of the par 3s (13th and 16th – water included) were particularly testing as the wind got up. The team was ‘lucky’ with the weather. Although towering indigo clouds passed overhead we had only a few showers – unlike the Berkshire area which experienced thunder, lightning, hail and torrential rain most of the afternoon.

Surrey were charming hosts and provided an excellent meal afterwards. We were delightful guests and did the right thing by losing gracefully, 3ó:4ó. It was very close – all coming down to the last match which was … halved!

Many thanks go the BLCGS team who all managed to get to Sutton Green on time despite morning mayhem on the M4:

Margaret Berriman, Barbara Shanks, Penny Bennett, Glyn Carroway, Jenny Chadwick, Rita Ellis, Pat Jenkins, Gill Lane, Pat Menzies, Norma Moran, Helen Price, Kathryn Price, Joan Somerville, Ishbel Thomson, Pauline Valsler, Paddy Wright.
