BLCGS Summer Meeting Report 2023

The Summer Meeting was held at Badgemore Park on Thursday July 27th 2023.

We had 48 ladies play on the day.  As always, ladies dropped out in the lead up to the day, and one group of 4 changed partners on the day.

All of these changes have to be reflected on the system and all the various print-outs have to be updated manually on the night before or the morning of the competition, so a big thank you to Ruth for making these changes so efficiently.

Although we had planned a two tee start, nearer the date of the Meeting, Badgemore stated they needed a minimum of 72 players to have a two tee start.  They did not tell us this when we booked, so we had a one tee start with the tee times stretching from 9.30 to 11.20 at 10 minute intervals. This lengthened the day by an hour, which was not the best as it was a damp, drizzly but warm day. Most people enjoyed the course although some found it long, especially in the rain. Play was quite slow with most players taking nearly 5hrs to get round.

This led to some frustration amongst the early players as they had been in, had their meal and still some people had not finished their round. But as we had to have almost two hours of tee times, it is inevitable that the last group will get in nearly 2hrs after the first group. It also seemed that the early players didn’t change but the later ones did which added to the delay.

However, other than the first two groups, everyone stayed for the presentation of prizes which our President, Margaret Edwards did as soon as the last group were seated.

The meal seemed to go down well and the Badgemore catering staff were pleasant and very helpful. They dealt very well with the various dietary requirements that we had told them in advance and also did very well with the dietary requirements we were only told about on the day.

The scores on the day varied from 23 pts to 41pts, with most pairs the mid-30s.

The winners were as follows:

First place:          Christine Eccleston & Susan Fagan from Castle Royle with 41 points

Second:                Anne Hooper and Nuala Priest from Hennerton with 40 points
