The match v Wiltshire was held at Wrag Barn GC near Highworth. The Club was opened in 1990 but the mature trees and established fairways made it seem older than 33 years.
The day started with just coffee on arrival but there was a very good two course meal after the match. However, we all felt that the match fee of £47, which was £10 more than any other match fee, was over the top. We also felt it was a long way to travel and not be offered anything to eat before we went out to play.
Having said that, the match was played in a very friendly atmosphere and we all enjoyed the course. Although thunder and lightning was forecast, the storm missed us and we just had a couple of short showers which did not affect the match at all. The course was in excellent condition and extremely well maintained. The parkland course is quite challenging with one par 5 of 500 yards and the overall yardage of 5732 yards.
Despite a lot of ladies initially saying they would like to play in this match, the numbers dwindled and eventually I was left with just one reserve. The sixteen ladies who played did very well. Thank you to all the ladies who played and doing so well on a course most of us had not played before. Let’s hope we can keep the momentum going for our last fixture v Sussex.
