For the first time I was not able to get a full team which was unfortunate, as this was our last match.  There were several reasons for this including the distance to travel, the start of the scratch leagues and other clash of dates.  Eventually, I managed to get six pairs and I played on my own.  The drive to Crowborough was made more difficult due to torrential rain and flooding for the last twenty miles or so. The ladies who went down the night before definitely made the right decision.

Crowborough Beacon Golf Club is more than 125 years old and the course is obviously very well established.  There are carries of at least 100 yards over the heather from a number of tees, which some of us found challenging. Once in the heather the damp conditions made the shot out even more challenging.

As planned we had sandwiches and chips before we went out and the first tee time was put back 30 minutes due to the heavy rain.  Although there was casual water, and the rough remained quite wet, considering the amount of rain prior to teeing off, the course recovered well and the weather continued to improve.  There were amazing views as can been seen in the photograph. Everyone seemed to enjoy the course once we had come to terms with the heather. We were all pleased to congratulate the Sussex lady who got a hole in one and was presented with a small bottle of prosecco.

The meal after the match was very good and the service was excellent. By now it was after 7pm and I think most of us were wanting to start our journey home as it had been a long but enjoyable day.

I am delighted to say we won the match 4 & 3 so our 12 hour day was worth it after all.

This victory was particularly important as it meant that we had won 5 of our 8 matches which was particularly pleasing as 5 of our matches were away. My thanks to all the ladies who have played in our matches and well done on to all of you for playing so well.
