Report of BLCGS match v The Berkshire Captains at Sonning G.C. 23 August 2023
The day did not start that well. Firstly, the road off the A4 which leads to Sonning GC was closed and there was a fairly lengthy diversion. Secondly, the cards had not been written. After a minor panic, and once we had the number of shots each lady received, two ladies immediately sat down, borrowed a pen and wrote the cards. Thank you both so much.
From then on things took a turn for the better. We had sandwiches and chips for an early lunch at 11.30am and teed off just after 12.30pm. It was a warm sunny day and the course was in fantastic condition. Each of the 10 games was played in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The “apres golf” was also very convivial with drinks outside followed by an excellent meal in the clubhouse. I would like to thank Paul Gold, the Berkshire Men’s Captain, for a very pleasant day which was made even better as the ladies won 7 ½ – 2 ½ . A perfect ending to the day. Well done to everyone who played, an excellent result.
